Amazing Night of Learning

When visiting a place like New York, expectations are bound to be high. The city holds more energy and life than most other places in the U.S. There were five of us from our Xenon Grand Island school going, and we could have not been any more excited. We had our bags packed right up to the 50 pound maximum and we were at the air port bright and early Sunday morning. We arrived in the big apple around noon and by this time, all being girls and all, we were “starving!” We quickly sat our bags aside and walked down to a little cafe where we had AMAZING hamburgers. It was here that we realized eating absolutely everything with Ranch Dressing was a Nebraska thing, because they didn’t have any for our burgers and fries…darn! After lunch, Michelle and I took a subway to the Lion King Broadway show, which I must say was breath taking! We finished the day with a little 5th Avenue shopping and then got some Z’s!
The next two days were led by Joseph DiMaggio, Jessica Vosper and their team. First, we went to the L’Oreal Labs where they make hair color and products-such an amazing place to see in person! I never really though about what all went into making color and product until seeing it with my own eyes, and meeting the geniuses who do it everyday! Second we visited the 9/11 Memorial, which was sad and real and amazing all at once. Next, we toured the cities shops and streets and ended with some classes at Dop Dop Salon, and some of the best pizza I’ve ever had! We learned Jessica’s (AKA Jay) famous Balayage technique and Joseph’s cutting and artistic design secrets.
On our last full day in New York, we went to the Ted Gibson Salon, where we watched some more color tricks and tips, as well as artistic designs. We made our way from there to the Shake Shack and had an amazing lunch that included a juicy hamburger, cheese fries, and a chocolate malt! At this point in the trip we had our choice on how we wanted to spend the afternoon. Some went to Brooklyn, others to see the Statue of Liberty, and for myself, shopping! That night we met at the L’Oreal Professional SOHO Academy where we spent another amazing night learning new ways of doing hair from some of the best in the industry. The night ended with an inspirational fire burning in all of our hearts and a little sad emotion that the journey was over. I was blown away by the love and passion that the group had for this industry, especially Jay and Joseph. They put their heart and soul into the week for us, and it made a world of difference into what we got out of our trip. We definitely got what we went for and so much more!
