Why I chose Cosmetology as my career

Ever since I was little I have always wanted to help others in any way I could.  When I was nine, I was diagnosed with a disorder called Trichotilomania (a hair pulling disorder).  This disorder is very shameful and embarrassing.  I had to find creative ways to hide the bald spots that I had created on my head. My doctor told me that there were many other people who had this problem.  I didn’t know of anyone else but l I knew how devastating it was and I wanted to help anyone else who suffered from this.  I decided to go to beauty school and become a hairstylist.  I knew that with training as a hairstylist I could provide a safe and understanding environment for others with Trichotilomania.

I decided to go to Xenon Academy in Aurora Colorado.  Xenon is giving me the skills to make my dreams of being a stylist and helping others come true.  My time at Xenon has been a life changing experience for me.  With the support of the other students I am learning not to be ashamed.  With the skills I am learning from the educators I am learning how to help others.

I want to thank all of my co students and educators for guiding me down this path to success.
