How to Apply to Beauty School for First-Time Students

That’s why we’ve created this simple, step-by-step guide to walk you through the application process. 

The most important thing to know? Whether you’re just starting to explore options or you’re ready to enroll right now, our team is here to answer your questions and help you every step of the way. 

Before You Start: Cosmetology School Eligibility

To even apply for beauty school in Nebraska, you’ll want to make sure you’re eligible! Nebraska requires cosmetology students to be at least 17 years old and to have either completed high school or earned their GED. 

Once you meet those requirements, you’re ready to jump in! 

1. Choose Your Program of Study

The first step is deciding which path in the beauty industry excites you most. At Xenon Academy, we offer a variety of programs to match your passion and goals: 

• Cosmetology
• Esthetics
• Barbering (available at our Omaha campus only)
• Student Instructing for either Cosmetology or Esthetics

2. Select Your Campus Location

Xenon Academy has two convenient campus locations: 

• Omaha, NE
• Grand Island, NE 

Both campuses offer a vibrant learning environment and financial aid options for those who qualify. 

If you’re unsure which location is right for you, we recommend scheduling a tour so you can get a feel for the campus culture and community. (Students interested in barbering will need to attend our Omaha campus, as it isn’t offered in Grand Island right now.) 

3. Decide When You Want to Start

Our class start dates vary depending on the program and location, and because we keep our class sizes small to make sure you get personalized instruction, spots can fill up fast. 

Choosing your ideal start month early gives you the best chance of securing your seat in the program of your choice on your preferred timeline. 

4. Schedule a Campus Tour

A campus tour is one of the best ways to experience Xenon Academy firsthand. Your visit will be around 45 minutes, and you’ll have the chance to: 

• Explore our classrooms and clinics
• Ask questions about programs, schedules and financial aid
• See if Xenon feels like the right fit for you

5. Gather Your Application Materials

To apply, you’ll need to submit the following along with the application: 

• A copy of your high school diploma or GED
• A copy of your birth certificate or other legal verification
• A photo ID or photo
• Your administrative/application fee 

And on the application itself, you’ll need to be prepared with: 

• Two character references with their names, phone numbers and email addresses
• Your preferred program of study
• Your desired start month
• Which campus you’re applying to
• A short paragraph telling us your interests and reasons to attend Xenon Academy 

This part of the process helps us get to know you better and make sure we’re the right fit for each other. 

6. Explore Your Financial Aid Options

Worried about how to pay for school? Let’s talk about it. 

Financial aid is available to those who qualify at both our Omaha and Grand Island campuses. Our on-site business officers can walk you through: 

• FAFSA and financial aid applications
• Grants and student/parent loans
• No-interest payment plans
• Veterans Administration benefits

Once you’ve completed your tour and gathered your documents, it’s time to take the leap.
